Not in my town, buddy

I just got word that there are going to be some puppy millers selling dogs at Old Settler's Park this Saturday and Sunday. In case you don't know what I'm talking about when I say "puppy millers," these are the same buttwarts who brought us Simone and the East Texas Crew and more recently Blue and Blossom. These are people who mass produce puppies on the cheap and not in a good way. I'm not talking about responsible breeders. Responsible breeders do exist. But I can guarandamntee you they aren't selling pups from a truck on the roadway.

Right now, I am just seething. Maybe I take it too personally. It's hard not to when you've spent three hours shaving poo-caked matted fur off just one skinny, wormy dog. Or you've had to woo a trembling, quaking creature from the corner of your closet where it has sat and peed on itself because the sound of your voice is just too scary. These are things that you just know you're going to have to deal with when you foster a puppy mill dog. Sometimes you get lucky and they get better and get adopted by a nice family.** But then other times you find yourself sitting in the vets office trying not to bawl like a baby because this one dog is too far gone, either too sick or too aggressive, and you have to put it down which really really sucks because you tried your best but you just can't fix it.

Yeah, you could say I'm a little touchy on the subject.

So, there's a group of folks organizing a protest for the thing this weekend and I'm planning on being there at least one day. I'm trying to think of something to do with a little more "oomph" than just holding a sign. But right now, anything I come up with could probably get me arrested. Throwing poo at these people would be wrong, right?

I'll think of something.

**on a happier note, this is a recent picture of Simone in her new digs. She looks good, huh?
