technicalities

My 11 year old hotmail email account was hacked into this morning, sending a stupid message to a BUNCH of people. I think I fixed it, but I am really kinda wanting to dump the old hotmail. I can't, though, because there are still some dog contacts that only reach me through that address and it's notoriously hard to update it everywhere I need to. So instead I was going to try and just use gmail Mail Fetcher to get my email from hotmail....only, I'm stoopid. I can't get it to work. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? or advice on how to get Mail Fetcher to work with hotmail?
