I tried to fake it, but you wouldn't play along**

I love this list of breakup songs on NPR. (Blogger isn't letting me use the linky tool, so here it is:) http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=7369581

Though I’ve never really appreciated good breakup song at the time I needed it most. If I’m going through a breakup, I have to basically stop listening to the radio in the car because if anyone even mentions the word “love” at that point it makes me weepy and then the driving becomes questionable with the weaving and the sniffling. Trust me, I went through a period of my life where all I could listen to was Dire Straits and Weird Al Yankovic. And that, my friends, is tragic in and of itself.

But these are some songs I would have added to the great Breakup Songs List because they were on mine—the one I would have listened to if I could:

Box Full of Letters—Wilco
Angelyne—Jayhawks
Santa Monica—Presidents of the USA
Friends in Low Places—Garth Brooks (shut up)
50 Ways to Leave Your Lover—Paul Simon
You Can’t Always Get What You Want—Rolling Stones
When Will I be Loved?—Linda Ronstadt (again, you can just hush your mouth)
Tonight, the Heartache’s on Me—Dixie Chicks
Kiss You Off—Scissor Sisters
Can’t Let Go—Lucinda Williams

Lordy, this could go on forever. Just add yours in the comments if you want.

** from Angelyne by the Jayhawks.

The best was the break-up cd you and Shannon made for me in 2003. You put Dean Martin singing "You're Nobody 'Til Sombody Loves You" on it. Ouch!

that was a JOKE--ha ha?? No? I don't know why I thought it was so funny then. I'm really very sorry about that.
