Independence Day

(I heard this on the radio this morning and it made me chuckle, so I wanted to verify before I shared it with you guys. And it's true!)

A little background: The McCain/Palin campaign has been using the Martina McBride song "Independence Day" during their rallies despite the fact that the song is about a woman escaping an abusive relationship by killing her husband, all arson-style. Murder! How presidential! But I digress. So the woman who wrote the song, Gretchen Peters, had this to say:

"The fact that the McCain/Palin campaign is using a song about an abused woman as a rallying cry for their vice presidential candidate, a woman who would ban abortion even in cases of rape and incest, is beyond irony," Peters said. "They are co-opting the song, completely overlooking the context and message, and using it to promote a candidate who would set women's rights back decades.”

So, you know what she's doing? She's donating her songwriting royalties from the song to Planned Parenthood..in Palin's name. Hee! Read about it here. Rock on.
