In Need of More Parental Supervision

I get home from work on Monday and not ten minutes later, someone rings the doorbell three times and bangs on the door totally annoying the crap out of me because, seriously, can't you read my non-existent NO SOLICITING sign?? The dogs are howling and throwing themselves against the screen door so in order to restore some calm, I step out onto the front step where there is a little girl, maybe 8 years old standing about 10 feet away with her bike on its side, looking like she fully expects Fergus to bust through the window at any time.

Me: Can I help you?

Little Girl: Um, do you have anything I can do around your house that you can pay me for?

Me: hmm, I don't know, what can you do?

She looks at me like I am completely insane, looks up and sideways and finally just shrugs.

Me: Well, um, I don't think so, but I'll keep you in mind for the future.
(why I said this I don't know. Like she's going to give me a business card?? Hell, I don't know, I was just trying to make her feel better)

Little Girl: Can you just give me a dollar anyway?

Me: No, I don't think so, sweetie. You have a good day now.

Little Girl: ARE YOU SURE?

Me: You're not very good at this are you?

Jesus Keerist. Where was this kids MOTHER??

I want to know if her parents read the news or the backs of milk cartons.

Yep, same thing happened here. Young boy came by, offering to do yardwork. I was all excited until I realized that he wanted to be PAID, too.

Geez, kid. Haven't you heard of unpaid internship?

OMG, are you serious? I don't mind if a kid wants to pick up the sticks in the front yard or do some poopscoopin' in the backyard for a dollar or two, but flatout ASKING for money?? Why? What's up with that?? And yes, where were her parents and do they have any clue of the missing children statistics. Good grief.
